Charlotte Powell Kerr, 85, of Roanoke Rapids, died Friday, May 20, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

A native of Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Allie Martin and Nina Hawkins Powell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James E. Kerr.

Charlotte was a member of Smith United Methodist Church, loved to travel and camp, and was a volunteer at Halifax Regional Medical Center for many years.

She is survived by her daughters, Sheila Smithey of Raleigh and Diane Cooley and her husband, Wallace, of Youngsville; her son, James Kerr and his wife, Joan, of Roanoke Rapids; her grandchildren, Alan Porch, Dennis Porch and his wife, Mary Lou, Justin Kerr and his wife, Sarah, and Meghan Jenkins and her husband, Corey; two sisters, Bula Crawley of Kinston and Gertrude Clary and her husband, Carl, of Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Gene Cobb and Rev. Dave Chapman officiating.

Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 22 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at 108 South River Rd., Roanoke Rapids.
